I've been involved with Showtimers for around 16 or 17 years and it has been like a second home to me.
I've had a lot of theatrical experience over the years, mostly as an actor, but also as stage manager, and just about every technical position on a production. I've worked with just about every current or defunct theatre in the Roanoke area at some point. I haven't been a board member for any organization but currently serve as the communications officer (one of the leadership positions) for the central Virginia chapter of the Socialist Rifle Association, a 401(c)(4) that attempts to create an inclusive space for marginalized people which have historically been excluded from mainstream gun culture. In my capacity as an elected official I manage our chapter's social media and have spearheaded several donation drives between our chapter and external mutual aid networks. We've raised money and supplies for aid networks that assist queer youth in the Richmond area, and conducted some food distributions for homeless people.
I would like to see the theatre broaden its appeal to younger audiences. I've been around for a while, and our clientele tends to skew older. I'd like to see the theatre doing newer, edgier productions that appeal to a younger demographic. I used to be much more active in Showtimers, sometimes working on every production in a season in some capacity but slowed down several years ago before taking a complete hiatus to raise children. I love my theatre, but had grown bored with seasons that played it *too* safe. My loftiest goal would be to move the theatre in a direction towards more artistic, and socially conscious shows, and not the same old done to death shows that every community theatre seems to fall back on.
