The Revolutionists is a grand, dream-tweaked comedy about violence and legacy, art and activism, compatriots and chosen sisters, and how we actually go about changing the world. What began a hopeful revolution for the people has sunk into hyper-violent, hypocritical male rhetoric. Playwright Olympe De Gouge, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen (and fan of ribbons) Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat, and try to beat back the extremist insanity in the Paris of 1793.
Director Jamie Stewart (The Women, Radium Girls) is seeking a diverse cast of 4 incredibly funny women to deliver slightly unrealistic portrayals of very real historical figures. While Marianne must be portrayed by a woman of color, it is not important for the race of the performer to match the other historical women. Likewise, the age of the characters is less important than their comedic timing. Please read the Character Description document below for a better understanding of the characters in the show.
The Revolutionists is recommended for audiences 13+ for some strong language and discussions of violence. For more info, please contact the Box Office.
